The worst-kept secret about the news business is that it's never been a great business. There's a reason why most of the great newspapers in American have been run not by big media companies but by wealthy families.
While the $250 million Bezos has paid for the Washington Post is not exactly chump change, it amounts to less than 1 percent of his total fortune. Bezos might have purchased it to use so that his wealth can pay dividends in other ways.
The purchase covers The Washington Post and other publishing businesses, including the Express newspaper, The Gazette Newspapers, Southern Maryland Newspapers, Fairfax County Times, El Tiempo Latino and Greater Washington Publishing.
Bezos, 52, has a net worth of $59.2 billion, making him as the 4th wealthiest person in the world.
Much of Bezos’s fortune is tied up in 82.9 million shares, or 18 percent, of the Seattle-based Web retailer, Amazon.
Since the company’s initial public offering in 1995, Bezos has sold almost $2 billion in Amazon
stock. Much of that has been plowed into Blue Origin, his closely held space-exploration company and into making political donations.
According to Mr. Trump, "Bezos is using The Washington Post for power so that the politicians in Washington don't tax Amazon like they should be taxed." So, who are some of those politicians?
